Know which companies are on your site

Updated

Short answer

Website visitor identification matches anonymous website visits to company names using the network each visit comes from. Outbound Labs adds one script to your site, shows which companies read your pricing and product pages, and lets its agents reach the right person at each interested company while they are still deciding.

How do you identify website visitors?

Paste one script tag into your site’s head, or add it through Google Tag Manager:

<script src="https://px.outboundlabs.app/v1.js" data-site="YOUR_ID" defer></script>

The script records each visit and the network it came from. Visits from known company networks are matched to a company name, its size and industry, the pages viewed and how often.

What happens after a company is identified?

  1. Each company gets a score from the pages it read and how often it came back. Repeat visits to pricing score highest.
  2. Interested companies are matched to one of your running campaigns.
  3. The Prospector finds the right decision maker there and verifies their email.
  4. You get an approval card, or the outreach runs automatically if you allowed it.

The emails never say “I saw you on our website”. The timing does the work; the message talks about the problem the pages suggest they are trying to solve.

How accurate is visitor identification?

It works best for companies browsing from office networks. These visits usually cannot be matched:

  • Remote workers, who appear as their home internet provider.
  • VPN and mobile traffic, which hides the company.
  • Very small companies without identifiable networks.

Expect to identify a minority of business traffic, weighted towards larger companies. Every name on the list still chose to visit you, which makes it the warmest list you have.

Is it GDPR compliant?

In the EU and UK the script loads only after cookie consent where the law requires it. Outbound Labs identifies companies rather than private individuals and deletes raw visit data after 90 days. You still need to describe visitor identification in your own privacy notice.

Frequently asked questions

How does website visitor identification work?
A small script records each visit and the network it came from. Many companies browse from office networks with known IP ranges, so the visit can be matched to a company name, along with the pages viewed and how often.
Can visitor identification tell me who the person is?
Outbound Labs identifies companies, not private individuals. Once a company shows intent, the agents find the right decision maker there through B2B data providers, the same way they do for any campaign.
What share of visitors can be identified?
Expect a minority of business traffic, weighted towards larger companies. Remote workers, VPNs, mobile networks and very small companies usually cannot be matched.
Is website visitor identification legal under GDPR?
It can be, with a lawful basis, a clear privacy notice and, in the EU and UK, cookie consent before the script runs. Outbound Labs waits for consent where the law requires it, identifies companies rather than people and deletes raw visit data after 90 days.
How many visitors are included?
1,000 identified visitors a month on Growth ($149) and 10,000 on Scale ($499).
