Short answerThe best Smartlead alternative depends on what you're fixing. Instantly, Saleshandy and Salesforge are like-for-like senders at similar prices, Apollo adds a database, and AiSDR or Outbound Labs take over the manual work. If mailboxes keep disconnecting, check your setup first. If nobody has time to run campaigns, a cheaper sender won't help.
Key takeaways
- Check the complaint before you switch. Smartlead's own help center lists disconnection causes such as sending pace, bounce rates of 3 to 5 percent and missing SPF, DKIM or DMARC, and those follow you to any sender.
- At each plan's published monthly cap, Smartlead Pro works out to about $0.87 to $1.04 per 1,000 sends. Instantly Hypergrowth, Saleshandy Pro and Salesforge Growth sit in the same range or slightly above. Caps are ceilings, not bills.
- Unlimited mailboxes is a workload. At 40 sends per mailbox per day, 90,000 sends a month means roughly 75 mailboxes to buy, warm and watch.
- Sender tools leave list building, writing and replies to you. If that is the part that doesn't get done, price an AI SDR or a done-for-you service on cost per meeting.
- Nearly every Smartlead alternatives list is written by a vendor on it, including this one. Prices below come from vendor pricing pages read on 30 October 2026.
Search for Smartlead alternatives and nearly every result is written by a company that sells one of the tools. Salesforge has a list, so does Valley, Reply.io, QuickMail and Persana. We're not neutral either: Outbound Labs sells an AI SDR and is on the list below. So here's how we handled it. Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page, read on 30 October 2026. We haven't run these tools for this post, so there are no hands-on verdicts, only published numbers and the arithmetic on top. If you want the head-to-head with Outbound Labs, see Outbound Labs vs Smartlead.
Why do people look for a Smartlead alternative?
The usual reasons are mailboxes that disconnect mid-campaign, warm-up results people don't trust, a $29 monthly fee per client workspace, no LinkedIn on the pricing page, and a busy interface. Some of these are tool problems. Others are setup problems that would follow you to a new tool.
Smartlead's pricing page shows four plans: Base $39 a month ($32 yearly), Pro $94 ($78), Unlimited Smart $174 ($144) and Unlimited Prime $379 ($315). All plans include unlimited email accounts according to its FAQ. Whitelabeling costs $29 a month per client workspace, and dedicated SmartServers are $39 each a month. Valley's roundup adds that warm-up is a $59 monthly add-on on Base and Pro and that the plans were restructured in 2026, so older blog posts describe a different lineup (Valley, vendor-written). The pricing page also contains inconsistent figures in places, so get a written quote before you budget.
Will switching tools fix mailbox disconnections?
Often not. Smartlead's own help center lists the causes of disconnection, and most of them are about how you send, not which tool sends. If you move the same mailboxes, lists and pace to another platform, the same problems tend to appear.
Here is what the help center article documents, and whether a new sender changes it.
| Documented cause | Does a new sender fix it? | What to do |
| Sends less than 10 minutes apart, daily volume above safe limits, sudden spikes | No. Providers throttle on behavior | Space sends 10 to 15 minutes per mailbox; the help center suggests early daily caps of 40 to 50 total, warm-up included |
| Two sending tools on one mailbox, or outbound before warm-up ends | No, and a move makes it likelier | One platform per mailbox; re-ramp over about 21 days when you migrate |
| Bounce rates around 3 to 5 percent or higher, spam complaints | No. This is list quality | Verify lists, suppress hard bounces and role addresses |
| Changed password, 2FA change, expired OAuth token | No | Reconnect and complete the OAuth prompt |
| Missing or misaligned SPF, DKIM, DMARC | No | Run our email domain checker |
| Provider safety checks from Google or Microsoft | No | Slow down and resume gradually |
The stakes go beyond one stalled campaign. Google's sender guidelines ask senders to keep the spam rate in Postmaster Tools below 0.30 percent and recommend staying under 0.10 percent. Bulk senders need SPF, DKIM and DMARC plus one-click unsubscribe. Our cold email deliverability guide covers the checks in more depth. We can't say how often disconnections come from the platform itself. Complaints on review sites and in roundups are secondhand and unmeasured, and we found no source comparing disconnection rates between tools.
So a switch makes sense when the problem is the tool: no LinkedIn, a missing feature, a bill that doesn't fit, or an interface your team won't use. It doesn't make sense as a cure for a 4 percent bounce rate.
How much do Smartlead alternatives cost per 1,000 emails?
At each plan's published monthly send cap, the volume-first senders land between roughly $0.57 and $1.60 per 1,000 emails on paid plans, and entry plans cost far more per email because their caps are small. That makes caps a comparison point, not a bill: you only get these numbers if you actually send the cap.
| Plan | Monthly cap | Price (yearly / monthly) | Per 1,000 at cap |
| Smartlead Base | 6,000 sends | $32 / $39 | $5.33 / $6.50 |
| Smartlead Pro | 90,000 sends | $78 / $94 | $0.87 / $1.04 |
| Smartlead Unlimited Prime | 500,000 sends | $315 / $379 | $0.63 / $0.76 |
| Instantly Growth | 5,000 emails | $37.60 / $47 | $7.52 / $9.40 |
| Instantly Hypergrowth | 125,000 emails | $77.60 / $97 | $0.62 / $0.78 |
| Saleshandy Starter | 6,000 emails | $34 / $41 | $5.67 / $6.83 |
| Saleshandy Pro | 100,000 emails | $76 / $99 | $0.76 / $0.99 |
| Salesforge Pro | 5,000 emails | not shown / $40 | n/a / $8.00 |
| Salesforge Growth | 50,000 emails | not shown / $80 | n/a / $1.60 |
We divided each price by its cap ourselves; prices come from the Smartlead, Instantly, Saleshandy and Salesforge pricing pages, all read on 30 October 2026. Instantly's page was inconsistent in places (the same plan name appeared at two prices), so we used the standalone plan cards. The point of the table: for pure sending, the four tools are within a few dollars of each other at volume. Price is rarely the reason to switch between them.
Is unlimited mailboxes actually a saving?
Not by itself. Smartlead, Instantly and Saleshandy all advertise unlimited mailboxes, but every mailbox needs a domain, authentication, warm-up and watching. The headline sends cap tells you what the software allows. Mailbox count tells you what you have to run.
A worked example, using the help center's early-weeks range and our own sending limit of 40 emails per inbox per day. Say you want to use Smartlead Pro's full 90,000 sends a month. Over 30 days that's 3,000 a day. At 40 a day per mailbox you need 75 mailboxes. Smartlead lists SmartSenders mailboxes from $4.50 each a month plus $13 per domain a year, so mailboxes alone run into the hundreds of dollars before any list data. At the 6,000 sends a month on Base, you need five mailboxes, which is manageable by hand. Use our cold email capacity calculator to check your own numbers. Past roughly 20 mailboxes, the real cost is the person watching them.
What are the best Smartlead alternatives?
Seven options are worth a look, grouped by the job you are hiring for. Three are like-for-like senders, one adds a database, and three take work off your plate. We've put Outbound Labs where it fits the logic of the list, not first.

| Instantly | Closest like-for-like sender | Growth $47 monthly / $37.60 yearly | Not mentioned |
| Saleshandy | Cheap sending, many users and clients | Starter $41 monthly / $34 yearly | Unclear, check with Saleshandy |
| Salesforge | Email plus LinkedIn in one tool | Pro $40 monthly | Yes, 1 sender on Pro, unlimited on Growth |
| Apollo | Database plus sequencing | Free plan; paid prices not shown on the page we read | Check with Apollo |
| AiSDR | Self-serve AI SDR billed per contact | $1.50 per person prospected | Yes |
| Outbound Labs | AI SDR with approvals on every campaign | Growth $149 a month, 5,000 emails | Yes, 1 or 5 accounts by plan |
| Done-for-you appointment setting | No one on your team to run it | Quote-based, check with each provider | Varies |
Instantly
Instantly is the alternative people name first, because it's the same model: bring your list and copy, send from many mailboxes. Its pricing page lists Growth at $47 a month ($37.60 yearly) for 5,000 emails and 1,000 uploaded contacts, Hypergrowth at $97 ($77.60) for 125,000 emails and 25,000 contacts, and Lightspeed at $358 ($286.30) for 500,000 emails. It also sells a lead database and credits as separate bundles. Strengths: a similar feature set at a similar price. Limits: it won't fix list or setup problems, and its pricing page doesn't mention LinkedIn. If this is your shortlist, our Outbound Labs vs Instantly page explains how an AI SDR differs.
Saleshandy
Saleshandy suits cost-conscious teams that want a sender with clear limits. Its pricing page shows Starter at $41 a month ($34 yearly) for 6,000 emails, Pro at $99 ($76) for 100,000 and Scale at $189 ($149) for 200,000, with unlimited connected mailboxes on all plans and lead finder credits included. Pro allows 10 users; Scale is unlimited. Strengths: transparent caps and users. Limits: sender rotation is capped per plan (10, 100 or 1,000 accounts), and LinkedIn support is unclear on the page. Our Saleshandy vs Instantly post goes deeper on it.
Salesforge
Salesforge is the pick when LinkedIn matters. Its pricing page lists Pro at $40 a month for 5,000 emails and 1,000 active contacts with 1 LinkedIn sender, and Growth at $80 for 50,000 emails and 10,000 contacts with unlimited LinkedIn senders and users. Both have unlimited mailboxes and a 14-day trial. Strengths: email and LinkedIn in one place. Limits: annual prices weren't shown on the page, and its separate Mailforge and Infraforge infrastructure products carry their own costs. It also sells an AI SDR called Agent Frank at $499 a month billed quarterly, with demo-only access. Remember Salesforge also publishes a Smartlead alternatives list, so read its comparisons with that in mind.
Apollo
Apollo fits teams whose problem is the list, not the sending. Its pricing page describes Free, Basic, Professional and Custom tiers, with sequencing included and a credits system shared across the team. The Free plan connects Gmail only. The page we read gave no dollar prices or sending caps, so check with Apollo for both. Strengths: contacts and sequences in one login. Limits: credits don't roll over, and heavy cold sending from one tool is a different job than prospecting. Pair it with a dedicated sender if volume is high.
AiSDR
AiSDR is a self-serve AI SDR that bills per contact. Its pricing page lists pay as you go at $1.50 per person prospected with no monthly fee, team plans for 1,000-plus contacts a month on quarterly contracts, and a warmed-up mailbox add-on at $33. The page lists LinkedIn connection requests, DMs and voice notes. Strengths: research, lists and writing are included, and you pay per contact reached. Limits: the page gave two different campaign minimums ($7.50 and $3), so confirm with AiSDR. See Outbound Labs vs AiSDR for the differences.
Outbound Labs
Outbound Labs is an AI SDR made of six agents: Researcher, Strategist, Prospector, Writer, Sender and Closer. You approve every campaign before anything sends, in the app, by email or in Slack. Growth is $149 a month for 5,000 emails ($0.03 per extra), Scale is $499 for 25,000 ($0.02 per extra), and the trial gives 750 emails free with no card. Plans include 5 or 25 warmed mailboxes and 1 or 5 LinkedIn accounts, with up to 40 emails per inbox per day and auto-pause above a 2 percent bounce rate. Data comes from B2B data provider APIs and is billed by the provider. It's early access with a waitlist.
At its listed prices, Growth works out to $29.80 per 1,000 emails and Scale to $19.96, far above the sender tools. That's the wrong comparison, because the price covers the research, writing and reply handling that you do yourself on Smartlead. The fair comparison is cost per booked meeting; try our cost per meeting calculator and see AI SDR pricing. It's a poor fit if you already have a strong list and copywriter and only need cheap sending at volume. Start from the AI SDR page if you're weighing it up.
Done-for-you appointment setting
If nobody will operate any tool, hire the outcome. Appointment-setting companies run the research, sending and replies and hand you meetings, usually on quotes. Check each provider for pricing and contract terms. Our guide to appointment setting companies covers the range and what to ask. Also see our lemlist alternatives post if lemlist is also on your shortlist.
How do you choose between them?
Start with who does the work today. If a person already builds lists, writes sequences and handles replies, a cheaper or richer sender helps. If that person doesn't exist, the sender was never the bottleneck.
A worked example. A four-person agency sends 20,000 emails a month for three clients and pays $29 per client workspace on Smartlead. The workspace fees are $87 a month, a small number next to the hours spent checking mailboxes. Moving to Saleshandy or Instantly changes the tool cost by tens of dollars. What changes the picture is whether the team keeps doing the list, copy and reply work or hands it to agents with approvals. These are made-up numbers for illustration, not a customer story.
- Same job, different price or interface: Instantly, Saleshandy, Salesforge.
- Your list is the weak part: Apollo, with a dedicated sender if volume is high.
- LinkedIn belongs in the sequence: Salesforge, AiSDR or Outbound Labs.
- Nobody has time to run campaigns: AiSDR, Outbound Labs or a done-for-you provider.
- Setup is the real issue: fix pacing, bounce rate and authentication before paying for anything new. Start your free trial only after that.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free Smartlead alternative?
Apollo's pricing page lists a Free plan with email campaigns, limited to Gmail connections, and gives no sending limits we could read, so check with Apollo. Salesforge lists a 14-day trial with 100 emails. Open-source senders exist too (a Show HN post in September 2026 announced one), but we haven't evaluated any.
Which Smartlead alternative is cheapest?
For email-only sending, Smartlead Base ($32 yearly, $39 monthly), Saleshandy Starter ($34 yearly, $41 monthly), Salesforge Pro ($40 monthly) and Instantly Growth ($37.60 yearly, $47 monthly) are the lowest entry prices on the pages we read. Mailbox, domain and data costs are extra on all of them.
Do any Smartlead alternatives include LinkedIn?
Salesforge's pricing page lists LinkedIn senders on both plans (1 on Pro, unlimited on Growth). AiSDR lists connection requests, direct messages and voice notes. Smartlead's and Instantly's pricing pages don't mention LinkedIn, and Saleshandy's is unclear, so check with Saleshandy.
Can I move my mailboxes from Smartlead to another tool?
You can, but don't switch tools on a live mailbox overnight. Smartlead's own help center says migrating without re-ramping can cause disconnections, and it recommends one sending platform per mailbox. Plan a gradual ramp of about three weeks.
Is an AI SDR a Smartlead alternative?
It solves a different problem. Smartlead is a sending tool your team operates with its own lists and copy. An AI SDR also builds the list, writes the emails and handles replies. Compare cost per booked meeting, not monthly price.
